Choosing your project

Start with the task, then choose the tool.

“We need an app” can mean several different things. Describe what a person should be able to do, and it becomes easier to decide what to build.

Choose a website when…

People need to learn about your services, see your work and contact you. Start with website design if the main problem is presenting your business clearly.

Choose a web app when…

People need to sign in, manage records, work through tasks or see information specific to them. Explore custom software when the work itself takes place in the tool.

Choose automation when…

A repeatable task moves information between steps or systems. Explore business automation when the main problem is repeated manual work.

Sometimes the answer is a combination

A service business might need a website to explain its offer, a quoting tool to prepare estimates and an automation to create follow-up tasks. These do not all need to be built at once.

Three questions to bring to your brief

Who is using the tool? What do they need to complete? What happens today when that task goes wrong? A clear answer to those questions is more useful than a long wish list of features.

Check existing products before commissioning custom software. A suitable ready-made tool can be a sensible option when your workflow is standard; custom work becomes more useful when the fit or connections are the problem.

Your next step

Describe the task you want to improve.

We’ll help you work out whether a website, system or simpler workflow is the right next step.
